LONDON: Afghan Council of Great Britain, member of World Afghan Congress has joined hands once again with Asia House, Britain’s leading organisation on relations with Asia to support the upcoming NURISTANI WOOD CARVING Workshop event to be held in Asia House, London.
The event will showcase the ancient Afghan art forms and techniques of woodcarving perfected over thousands of years in the hidden eastern mountains of Afghanistan, particularly from Nuristan province. The province is well known for its unique artistic culture, craftsmanship heritage and woodcarving skills.
We are also thrilled that the event will feature Master Naseer Yasna, the finest wood carver of the Islamic World and pride of the British Afghan community. He will be joined by the renowned architect Heidieh Wojdani to highlight the ways in which Islamic art draws upon the use of simple geometric components to produce works of surprising complexity.
Both Naseer and Heidieh run the Lazo Studios Ltd based in London. Lazo Studio Ltd is a distinguished member of our sister organisation Afghan Business Association UK.
The Introduction to Nuristani Woodcarving event is being held by Asia House in collaboration with Barakat Trust as part of London Craft Week 2020 and Converging Paths 2020.
The event is also supported by Altajir Trust and Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
It is the second time Asia House and Afghan Council of Great Britain have joined hands following the extremely successful Afghan Lapis Lazuli and Shrines of Power Event with the renowned Afghan – American writer and historian Professor Hamid Naweed in 2019.
